Two Different Expressions of Luxury
The Padrón 60th Anniversary Perfecto delivered a concentrated Nicaraguan profile built around dark cocoa, toasted cedar, espresso, walnut, earth and natural sweetness. The perfecto shape allowed the cigar to develop gradually, becoming broader and richer as the burn moved beyond the tapered foot.
Ashton VSG Sorcerer approached the matchup differently. Its Ecuador Sumatra sun-grown wrapper covered aged Dominican binder and filler tobaccos, producing a full and distinguished profile. Toasted cedar, dark earth, black pepper and bittersweet cocoa led into espresso, leather, baking spice and a touch of dried-fruit sweetness.
Both cigars offered excellent complexity. The difference was how completely each cigar brought its elements together from beginning to end.
Where the Matchup Was Decided
Construction and draw were exceptional for both cigars. Flavor complexity and finish were also championship-level on each side. Ashton VSG delivered power, depth and a long, spicy finish, proving that it belonged among the strongest cigars in the field.
The separation appeared in two areas: burn performance and balance.
Padrón maintained an even burn, effortless draw and controlled flavor progression throughout the evaluation. Cocoa, coffee, cedar, earth, walnut and sweetness developed without any one component overpowering the others. That balance allowed the cigar to remain rich while still feeling composed.
Ashton VSG was powerful and complex, but its pepper, earth and charred-oak character became more forceful in the final third. It remained an elite cigar; however, Padrón produced the more complete performance in this head-to-head evaluation.
The published Ashology assessment reflected that distinction. Both cigars received full marks for construction, draw, flavor complexity and finish. Padrón earned the advantage in burn and balance, finishing with 30.0 out of 30 compared with Ashton VSG's elite 28.5.
